A 23-year-old unemployed man of no fixed place of abode who last month admitted to seven counts of criminal deception, has been sentenced to serve 18 months at Dodds Prison.
Jeheem Javan McDonald had previously pleaded guilty in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that on October 5, 2024, he falsely obtained goods from several businesses by passing off Visa and MasterCard debit cards in the name of Steven Bascombe as his own.
The goods included purchases of $200, $100, $200, and $80 from Sol Warrens; goods valued at $90.31 from Massy Warrens; goods from Chefette Warrens valued at $54.50; and $78.05 in goods from RJ Supplies in Fairchild Street, The City.
The court was told that Bascombe misplaced his wallet, which contained his bank and credit union cards, in October 2024 and began receiving notifications that these were being used.
He informed the financial institutions, which blocked the cards, and the police were called.
Detectives found McDonald on surveillance cameras at various points making these transactions. The accused was seen at Sheraton Mall by a police officer last month and was arrested.
Magistrate Manila Renee sentenced him to 18 months on each charge to run concurrently, minus the time he spent on remand.
