The 2025 Sectus Technologies Barbados Karting Association (BKA) Championship is heading into its final stretch, with everything still up for grabs as just two rounds remain.
This Sunday (October 19), Round Six kicks off at Bushy Park Barbados, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle that will culminate four weeks later in the season finale.
There’s a maximum of 200 points still on the board if a driver can complete a clean sweep of four race wins each time out—something achieved twice this year by Calem Maloney, who leads the Easykart 125cc class and the overall standings, boasting 17 wins in 20 races.
Maximum points have only been scored once in the hotly competitive Easykart 60cc Cadet class, in Round Four by Jordyn Hinkson, when arch-rival Jaydn Brathwaite was absent. With ten wins so far, Hinkson leads the standings by 80 points from nine-time winner Brathwaite, but the gap narrows to just 13 once a dropped score is taken into account.
Racing among the island’s most junior competitors has been of a very high standard this season, as they fight for the title won three times consecutively (2009-2011) by Formula E World Championship driver Zane Maloney. In his first season, third-placed Edward Norris has steadily improved, with 13 top-three finishes—including inheriting his first race win in Round Three when Brathwaite incurred a penalty.
Finn Cox, last year’s class champion Shamir Eversley, lone female cadet Ava Mayers, and Jaylan Priddee have all finished in the top three at least once, leaving the battle for the places finely poised.
BKA Chairman Barry Mayers said: “It’s great to see how these young karters have progressed over the last year, and it is good for the future of the sport to see so many new karters coming along, many under the age of ten.”
While the situation is more clear-cut in the 125cc class, with Maloney on course for a fourth consecutive title, he certainly can’t afford to let his guard down before the season’s end. Although other race wins have been claimed by reigning champion Jacob Mayers, his cousin Zak, and Cody Mark, it is the consistent Aaron Blackett who lies second in the class standings.
