Sada Williams finished seventh in the Women’s 400-metre final at the Paris Olympic Games earlier today.

Running from lane two, the Barbadian quarter-miler clocked 49.83 seconds in her first Olympic final, which was marginally faster than the 49.89 she registered in the semi-final race to secure her spot in today’s final.

Marileidy Paulino from the Dominican Republic lived up to expectations as the pre-race favorite by winning gold with a time of 48.17 seconds, finishing some distance ahead of second-placed Salwa Eid Naser from Bahrain, who clocked 48.53 seconds. European Champion Natalia Kaczmarek of Poland rounded off the podium with a time of 48.98 seconds, securing the bronze medal.
