BMS statement #4 on area of interest

The Barbados Meteorological Services is closely monitoring the progress of an area of interest in the Central Tropical Atlantic approximately 932 miles / 1550 km east of the Lesser Antilles at 11 a.m.

Model guidance suggests that the feature should approach the Lesser Antilles by Tuesday. There is some uncertainty regarding its intensity, however, environmental conditions are expected to be marginally favorable for some slow development and a tropical depression is likely to form in the coming days as the feature tracks west-northwestward.

There are no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados associated with this system.

Potential Impacts

This feature is projected to pass north of Barbados sometime between Monday and Tuesday.

A reduction in wind speeds will be noticeable on Monday with warmer temperatures likely along with localized activity. Occasional moderate showers may generate rainfall accumulations of up to two inches with the possibility of flooding in some areas.

What should you do

The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM, and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates over the coming days.

This information statement was issued at 11 a.m. Sunday and will be updated at 11 a.m. on Monday or sooner if conditions warrant.
