New pharmacy system to be implemented in days

As the Barbados Drug Service (BDS) rolls out its new pharmacy management system from September 30 to October 28, pharmacies operating under the BDS, and the Psychiatric Hospital Pharmacy, will have scheduled closures.

Frederick ‘Freddie’ Miller Polyclinic Pharmacy closes on September 27 and reopens for the new system’s implementation on September 30; the Edgar Cochrane Polyclinic Pharmacy closes on October 4 and reopens three days later; the Eunice Gibson Polyclinic Pharmacy will close on October 11 and reopen on October 15; and the Psychiatric Hospital Pharmacy will close on October 25 and reopen October 28.

Following the implementation of the pharmacy management system, persons are likely to experience a temporary increase in wait times for pharmaceutical services, for approximately four weeks.

The new system is expected to improve patient records management, treatment, and pharmaceutical health care and safety, the ministry said.
