Coach off to Hungarian University on Olympic Scholarship

Local football coach Kerry Trotman has been awarded a prestigious Olympic Solidarity (OS) Scholarship to undertake the International Coaching Course (ICC) at the Hungarian University of Sports Sciences (HUSS) in Budapest, Hungary.

The intensive nine-week programme, which commenced on Monday, September 30, is organised by HUSS in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee and supported by Olympic Solidarity. It is designed to provide advanced training in sports sciences and sport-specific methodologies, offering Coach Trotman a significant opportunity to further develop her expertise in football coaching.

With over a decade of experience across youth, women’s, and men’s football, Trotman will engage in subjects such as exercise physiology, sports pedagogy, sports psychology and sports management, with assessments in both the theoretical and practical aspects of her sport. The non-degree programme is highly regarded for its focus on enhancing coaching skills and fostering international cooperation and sporting excellence.

Janelle Denny, director of the National Olympic Academy, expressed pride in recommending Trotman for the scholarship, stating, “her commitment to football, both as a coach and a former player, has made a significant impact on the development of the sport at various levels”.

“This scholarship will allow her to bring invaluable knowledge back to our local football programmes, further elevating the techniques of players,” she said.

Trotman, a former player for the Barbados Women’s National Team, holds a FIFA/CONCACAF Coaching Educators’ certification and several CONCACAF coaching licences, including the B Licence. She is currently senior coach for Technique Football Club’s U-15 team, where she leads the development of young footballers. Her previous roles include head coach positions at Central League Spartan FC and YoungBoyz FC, as well as assistant coach for the Barbados U-20 Men’s National Team. She also boasts international experience, having coached the Turks & Caicos U-15 Girls’ National Team.

The ICC programme will conclude on November 29, 2024.
