Quakes rock three Caribbean countries

PORT OF SPAIN – The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) says an earthquake  with a magnitude of 3.8 rattled three countries on Monday night, nearly 12 hours after a similar quake was felt in the Leeward Islands.

In its statement, the SRC said that while there were no reports of injuries or damage associated with the quakes, the first one was felt at 8:59 a.m. (local time)  while the second occurred 9:02 p.m. (local time).

The second was located at Latitude: 13.29N, Longitude: 61.00W at a depth of ten kilometers (km) and was felt 29 km north east of Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadine capital, 82 km south of Castries, in St Lucia and 145 km south of Fort-de-France, the capital of the French island of Martinique.

Earlier, the 3.8 magnitude earthquake was felt 42 km north west of Basseterre in St Kitts-Nevis, 122 km north west in Brades, Montserrat and 133 km north west of  St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda. (CMC)
