Barbados urges more funding for climate resilience

Climate resiliency and funding for loss and damage were key topics during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmonds and Ibrahim Cheikh Diong, Executive Director of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD), on Friday.

Minister Symmonds emphasised the critical need for small island developing states and least developed countries to access funding to address the impact of natural disasters and climate change. He also highlighted the strain on these nations if financial aid for loss and damage continues to decline.

The two officials also discussed the upcoming Fifth Board Meeting of the FRLD in Barbados, which will focus on furthering efforts for climate action and the global solidarity needed to address these urgent issues.

Also present during the courtesy call were Sherpa to Prime Minister Mia Mottley, Ambassador Elizabeth Thompson.
