Event promoters are taking no chances with security during the Crop Over Festival.
They highlighted the numerous safety measures they are implementing at their events.
Powda producer Daniel Evelyn, like others, stressed that they were working closely with The Barbados Police Service, Barbados Defence Force, Barbados Fire Service, private security and other stakeholders to ensure their event was as safe as possible.
“We are prepared for the numbers. We expect over 10 000 people. We take responsibility for that and we care for the people.
“It’s about love and you will feel that from the time you enter the gates of Powda.
“We will cut off at a certain point because are not going to sacrifice quality or safety.
We have multiple levels of security, private security, and volunteer security,” Evelyn said.
He said there would be canines, drone security and undercover security personnel in the crowds to deflate any contentious issues.
In 2023, Powda was one of the events affected by stormers who breached security when it was held at Vaucluse Raceway in St Thomas. There was also a fire.
Last year the event was relocated to Bushy Park, St Philip and is scheduled to return there on June 28.
