Fraud trial of 80-year-old begins

Shurland Delacey Boyce is currently on trial in the No 3A Supreme Court facing five fraud-related charges and two of going equipped.

The 80-year-old resident of 4th Avenue Belleville, St Michael has pleaded not guilty before Justice Anthony Blackman to dishonestly obtaining $632.50 from Pot of Gold Arcade on December 16, 2016, with the intention of permanently depriving Pauls Enterprises Limited of those funds by falsely representing that a gaming voucher, which he produced and delivered, was valid for payment of the funds; on that same date dishonestly obtaining from Pot of Gold, $652.50 with the intention of permanently depriving Pauls Enterprise Limited of those funds by falsely representing that a gaming voucher, which he produced and delivered, was valid for payment of the funds; and to dishonestly obtaining $556.50, $552.50 and $472.50 from Pot of Gold Arcade with the intention of permanently depriving Pauls Enterprise Limited of those funds by falsely representing that gaming vouchers, which he produced and delivered, were valid for payment of these funds on December 17, 2016,.

Boyce is also accused that on December 18, while not being at his home he was in possession of three Pauls Enterprises Limited gaming vouchers bearing the numbers 0701, 0710 and 0716 for the use in connection with criminal deception and of having a Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited cheque for use in connection with criminal deception.

Principal State Counsel Rudolph Burnett and State Counsel Treann Knight are prosecuting.

Boyce is self-represented.
