Use We Gatherin’ as ‘catalyst for change’

Director of the We Gatherin’ Secretariat Senator John King says only respect and love can heal Barbados and is urging people to seize We Gatherin’ 2025 as a powerful chance to rebuild the nation’s cherished bonds of community.

He highlighted this at the St Philip launch of the We Gatherin’ 2025 celebrations during a thanksgiving church service at the Oldbury Seventh-Day Adventist Church Complex yesterday.

“If you respect me and I respect you, and if you love me the way I love myself, then a lot of the things we are complaining about today we probably wouldn’t have to face them.

We Gatherin’ continues to give people the opportunity to rediscover Barbados . . . use We Gatherin’ as that catalyst to get us to be kind to each other, to be loving to each other, to be thoughtful to each other, and to be the best Barbadians that we can be,” he said.

The service drew a gathering of distinguished guests, including President The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason, MPs Indar Weir, Kay McConney and Dr Sonia Browne, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Senator Dr Shantal Munro-Knight, other members of Parliament, clergy, community leaders, and residents, all eager to celebrate under the parish’s theme: Sugar.

Justice of the Peace Dr Denise J. Charles opened the service by reflecting on the theme’s historical and spiritual significance.

“We can never know how sweet a joint of sugar cane is until we suck its succulent juice, as many of us did in our childhood. Similarly, we can never know the unique experience of a flavourfilled experience with God unless we, by faith, try him or, as admonished by the Scriptures, taste and see,” she said. (CS)
