Inniss bemoans state of health care

Former Minister of Health Donville Inniss has raised concerns about the state of Barbados’ public health care system, calling it “embarrassing” and “unacceptable” following revelations that a critical piece of medical equipment has been left unused for months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

He also wants to see health care in Barbados being more patient-centred.

The outspoken former Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Member of Parliament for St James South was reacting to the disclosure in the last SUNDAY SUN that a $10 million linear accelerator machine – used in the treatment of cancer – has been sitting in storage since arriving on the island last November.

Minister of Health, Senator Dr The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, confirmed the machine was still to be installed, revealing that the matter was being dealt with by the hospital’s engineering department.
