Barbadian powerhouse Weymouth Wales made a strong statement in the 2025 CFU Club Shield on Sunday, producing a composed 3-1 victory over Police FC in Group C at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
Andre Applewhaite was the star of the show, striking twice in the 3rd and 43rd minutes to put Wales firmly in control. Police FC’s Kwesi Allen pulled one back just before halftime, but Wales sealed the result in the 88th minute when Applewhaite turned provider for Romario Harewood to tap home the clincher.
Weymouth Wales’ win was one of several thrilling results across six group-stage fixtures played across the twin-island republic.
At the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima, Suriname’s SV Transvaal brushed aside Wolues FC 3-0. Giorgio Bhoi opened the scoring with a sensational free kick in the 26th minute, Álvaro Keizerweerd added a second in the 69th, and Jamairo Hecbert capped off the win with a long-range effort deep into stoppage time.
In the day’s earlier game at the same venue, All Saints United of Antigua and Barbuda dominated SCSA Eagles 3-1. Kendukar Challenger forced an own goal in the 10th minute before Tiquan Isaac and Raheem Deterville added to the tally. Romario Chilin grabbed a consolation for the Eagles in the 63rd, but a comeback never materialised.
Martinique’s Club Franciscain delivered the most emphatic performance of the day, thrashing Doc’s United 6-1 at Ato Boldon Stadium. Early goals from Philippe Clervil, Mathis Priam, and Christof Jougon had the game virtually sealed by halftime. Sylvanus James briefly pulled one back for Doc’s United, but Franciscain piled on three more in the second half through Johnny Marajo, Axel Delor, and a stoppage-time penalty from Priam.
In another tightly contested affair at Hasely Crawford, AC Port of Spain edged Scholars International 2-1. Josiah Wilson fired the hosts ahead in the 28th minute, only for Christopher Brown to equalise shortly after the break. However, Jean-Heim McFee popped up in the 85th minute to deliver the winning goal for the Trinidadians.
Defending champions Arnett Gardens also laid down a marker, cruising to a 4-0 win over Dublanc FC. Giovanni Taylor opened the scoring in the 9th minute before Shai Smith bagged a quick-fire brace in the 12th and 16th minutes. Chantamoi Taylor rounded off the rout in second-half stoppage time.
