Caribbean countries shaken by two earthquakes

PORT OF SPAIN – Several Caribbean countries, including Antigua and Barbuda, were rattled by two earthquakes over a 48 hour period,  the Trinidad-based Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St. Augistine campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) reported on Tuesday.

It said that the latest tremor with a magnitude of 3.8 occurred at 6.48 am (local time) and was felt in St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat and Antigua and Barbuda.

The quake had been located at Latitude: 17.42N, Longitude: 62.77W, and at a depth of 88km.

The SRC reported that on Monday at around 3:21 p.m. (local) time, the same three Caribbean countries were rattled by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9.

It said the quake was located Latitude: 17.56N, Longitude: 62.54W and at a depth of 93 km.

In both instances, the SRC said there were no reports of injuries or damage. (CMC)
