Man accused of robbing pensioners makes plea for bail

The man accused of robbing a 71-year-old woman, and beating and robbing a pensioner in full view of passers-by, petitioned the court to release him, saying he could be granted bail with any number
of conditions.

However, Jaquan Janeil Rasheed Stoute was sent back to Dodds Prison as Magistrate Manila Renee considers his bail application.

The unemployed 28-year-old, of Marl Hole Gap, Halls Road, St Michael, was back in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday where he was accused of robbing pensioner Jeffrey Barrow of $340 on May 15 this year.

Stoute was also charged that with intent to maim, disfigure of disable Barrow, he unlawfully wounded him on the same date.

The accused is also charged with robbing 71-year-old Esline Johnson-Went of her five bangles and two necklaces on December 19, 2024. He was not required to plead to the indictable charges.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to having cannabis in his possession, having a traffickable quantity of the drug and having it with intent to supply on April 9 this year.

Prosecutor Sergeant Reginald Blackman renewed his objection to the accused’s release, but Stoute countered by saying his bail could be granted “under any conditions”.

“If I have to sign in seven days, or a curfew from 4 a.m.,” he said, as he claimed outstanding matters at the Oistins Magistrates’ Court had been dismissed.
