Roston Chase played a starring role as he out-gunned Jason Holder to help Saint Lucia Kings to victory over St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League on Tuesday night.
Chase was named Player-of-the-Match with a score of 61 off 38 balls with the bat, which helped the visitors to 200-8 off their 20 overs at Warner Park.
The tall Bajan all-rounder cemented his brilliance with 2-27 with the ball, as he grabbed the wickets of left-hander Rilee Rossouw and Patriots skipper Holder. The home side ended on 197-6 off their 20 overs to lose the close encounter by three runs.
It was their third defeat in four matches and has left them bottom of the table. For the defending champs, Kings, it was their first win following a wash-out on Sunday night in Antigua.
“It was a bit nerve-racking!”.
“I think we made it a hard victory. I thought we could have won it a bit more outright, but I’m still grateful for the two points,” Chase said after the match.
“My bowling style is just to firstly keep it tight and build pressure, and then that creates the wicket opportunity for me. I don’t really go searching for wickets unless the pitch is assisting. I just come in to play that bowling role and just give the captain that control that he’s looking for.”
The match went down to the final delivery, with Navin Bidaisee and the Patriots requiring four to win off David Wiese’s last ball. Wiese nailed his yorker for most of the over but missed his length slightly off the crucial delivery to put one in the slot. Bidaisee bunted down towards the boundary at long off, only for the towering Tim David to take the catch.
Bidaisee, a tall left-hander from Trinidad, made an even 50 off 36 balls on his debut. Earlier, Holder kept the innings together with 63 off 29 balls which included six sixes. He added 71 in six overs with Bidaisee after the innings slipped to 61-4 in the ninth over.
The CPL continues on Wednesday night when Trinbago Knight Riders take on Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The Barbados Royals will be in action on Thursday night against the Patriots at Warner Park in St Kitts. (PS)
