Police are investigating an attempted robbery that targeted a group of men, including some West Indies cricketers, around 3:14 a.m. on Tuesday, along Fontabelle, St Michael.
According to police, the group was seated on a wall near a food establishment when they were approached by an armed man. The men then attempted to flee. However, one man fell and became involved in a struggle with the attacker, during which a chain was broken from his neck.
A firearm was later recovered at the scene.
Police said that no West Indies cricketer was robbed during the incident.
None of the men was named, although regional news reports indicated two of them were from the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots franchise, here for the Barbados leg of the Caribbean Premier League.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may aid in the investigation is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 430-7189 or 430-7190, the Police Emergency number at 211, or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-8477.
