Brave batting by Aliyah Alleyne led Barbados Royals Women to a sensational win over Guyana Amazon Warriors as they captured the Massey Women’s Caribbean Premier League title on Wednesday afternoon. Alleyne made 17 not out off just nine balls as the Royals made 137-7 off 19.4 overs to win by three wickets with two balls to spare at the Guyana National Stadium.
Alleyne’s match-winning performances included a big six over the midwicket boundary off the third ball of the penultimate over. This was followed by a four next ball in the same direction and this swung the pendulum in Barbados’ favor. In the next over she secured the winning run with a single to mid-on and joined her teammates as they celebrated on the field. For her heroics Alleyne was named Player-of-the-Match. The winners’ medals to the victorious players were presented by Dr Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana.
“This was a magnificent performance,” said head coach Ryan Hinds. “Everyone played their part and I’m delighted to win again this year. This now makes it three in a row and demonstrates that when you prepare well and execute the plans you will get the rewards.”
The victory meant that Barbados Royals played a perfect tournament with five wins – four in the preliminaries and the final. (PS)
