South Georgia Tormenta FC forward and Barbados football international Niall Reid-Stephen this week made his sixth appearance in the United States Soccer League (USL) League One Team of the week. The 24-year-old scored a brace the week prior, taking his tally for the season to a dozen.
A 22-game veteran for the Bajan Tridents, Reid-Stephen has 11 international goals. Last week against Westchester SC, he produced at club level, netting a brace for the second consecutive game. In the 11th minute, the Barbadian received the ball from defender Makel Rasheed, burying it into the net to give the Ibis a 1-0 lead. In the 46th minute, Reid-Stephen extended the lead to 3-1, scoring from inside the box. His 12 league goals have him in contention for the USL League One Golden Boot, as he is just two shy of the lead.
Also making the Team of the Week for the Statesboro, Georgia-based Tormenta, but for the first time in his career, was midfielder Conor Doyle. In Tormenta’s 3-1 victory over Westchester, Tormenta’s captain Doyle scored his first goal of the season. Just before the first half, Israeli forward Yaniv Bazini served the ball back into the six-yard box to find Doyle. The midfielder calmly placed the ball past the goalkeeper, giving Tormenta a 2-1 lead. Doyle achieved 80 per cent passing accuracy, 100 per cent in both aerial duels won and tackles won during this match.
Tormenta will be on the road for the next two matches against Spokane Velocity FC on October 11, and Greenville Triumph SC on October 18. The Ibis will return home for their final match of the regular season against Texoma FC on October 25.
Since starting play in 2016, the club has quickly established itself as a top contender, first in USL League Two and later as a founding member of USL League One in 2019. In 2022, Tormenta FC secured its first championship title in USL League One.
