Barbados’ outdated data on reported cases of domestic abuse is still a barrier in the way of implementing care.
Barbara Daniel-Goddard, chair of the Advocates Against Domestic Abuse, said the most recent national survey on domestic abuse in Barbados was conducted in 2009 and no updated data exists to accurately determine the frequency of cases today.
The Advocates group and other organisations keep their own records but there is a high probability of data duplication, she said.
“Those stats are not accurate, we are really off and it is a serious issue. What we do know is that the police retain records, and that is only for those people who go to the police station and there are those who do not go to the police station,” she said.
