Drivers are being warned to expect road closures and diversions on Thursday as the police and armed forces rehearse for Sunday’s Remembrance Day parade in the city centre, police said.
Upper Broad Street, Trafalgar Street, Wharf Road, Marhill Street, Palmetto Street and Rickett Street will be closed from 4pm to 6.30pm. Delays are also expected along Coleridge Street, Magazine Lane, Broad Street, Bridge Street, Roebuck Street and Tudor Street.
Traffic diversions will be in effect, police said. Vehicles travelling along Lower Broad Street will be required to turn left at the junction with Prince William Henry Street. Vehicles parked along Marhill Street, Palmetto Street and Rickett Street must be removed before 4.00 pm to avoid being delayed.
Police have emphasised that failure to comply with these rules or any instructions from uniformed officers could attract a fine of $500 or imprisonment for up to three months. Exceptions are made for the Barbados Police Service, Barbados Defence Force, Barbados Fire Service and other emergency vehicles.
Officers will be deployed to assist with traffic management, and police urged the public to exercise patience and cooperate during the rehearsal.
