Carpenter remanded for assaulting woman

A 21-year-old Jamaican carpenter who admitted to assaulting a woman while already on bail for another charge involving the same complainant has been remanded to Dodds Prison pending sentencing.

David Emanuel London, of 1st Avenue Jackson, St Michael, appeared in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court and pleaded guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Malini Green on November 15.

Court Prosecutor Station Sergeant St Clair Philips told the court that the accused went to the complainant’s home, started an argument, and choked her, leaving Green with bruises and abrasions about the body. He added that London was already on bail from the No. 2 Court, which had ordered him to stay away from the same complainant.

London told the court he arrived in Barbados on January 29, 2023, was on a work permit, and had been employed as a builder.

Magistrate Alison Burke remanded him in custody until November 21, when officials from the Immigration Department are expected to appear to address his immigration status.

London also faces a charge of damaging Green’s mobile phone on November 15, but he has denied that allegation.
