DLP candidates in three St Michael constituencies threw a festive Christmas party for area families in Bank Hall on Sunday, delighting more than 150 children with jumping tents, ice cream, toys and fish cakes despite a late downpour.
The event, organised by St Michael Central candidate Senator Andre Worrell, brought together St Michael North East candidate Jamal Sandiford and prospective St Michael West candidate Damien Fanus at the Empire Cricket Club on Pavilion Road.

While rain forced the cancellation of some planned activities later in the evening, Sen Worrell said the overall response from residents was positive and encouraging.
“I think that, for a first-time event and for all three persons being new candidates to the constituency, the response was very heartwarming and very encouraging,” he said.
He noted that organisers initially planned to cater for about 150 people, but attendance exceeded expectations.
Activities for children included jumping tents, popcorn machines and soft-serve ice cream, along with small gifts such as toys, colouring books and yo-yos. Food offerings included pizza and fish cakes.
“We wanted to keep the children engaged and occupied during the balance of the Christmas vacation, and it’s definitely something that we will continue to do,” Worrell said.
He added that the Empire Cricket Club provided an ideal location to accommodate the turnout.
“There’s a very large cricket field, so there were children running all over the field, in the jumping tents and in the clubhouse areas,” he explained.
