Escaped murderer seeks quick court resolution

A convicted murderer, who escaped custody for two months, told a Bridgetown magistrate on Monday that he wanted his escape matter dealt with quickly.

Kishon Lemar Anderson Thomas of Nicholls Road, Seaview, St James, is charged that, being in custody of the Barbados Prison Service, he escaped lawful custody from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital without the use of force, on May 2.

While gesturing to the heavy police presence inside and outside of the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Monday, he said: “Ma’am, the charge says ‘without force’. That means nobody ain’t get push or lick down. Nothing so. So I don’t see what all this is necessary for.”

“I just want this matter deal with quick, so I don’t have to go through all this.”

He told the court that he had not been allowed any phone calls with his family for the past six months, and virtual calls were limited to one relative at a time.

“It is very stressing not hearing my family or children. I would like to have phone calls,” he said.

But Magistrate Alison Burke told him to speak with prison staff about his access to such calls before adjourning the escape case until January 26, 2026.
