Motorists travelling through Bridgetown on Wednesday evening can expect road closures, diversions and delays as a parade rehearsal is held for the reopening of Parliament.
The Barbados Police Service said the rehearsal will take place at the Parliament Buildings, Bridgetown, St Michael, on Wednesday, February 18, between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
During that time, Upper Broad Street, Trafalgar Street, Wharf Road and Rickett Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.
Drivers are also being warned to expect delays along Coleridge Street, Magazine Lane, Broad Street, Bridge Street, Roebuck Street and Tudor Street.
Several traffic diversions will be in effect. Motorists travelling along Lower Broad Street will be required to turn left at the junction with Prince William Henry Street. Traffic along St Michael’s Row will either turn right onto Marhill Street towards Roebuck Street or left onto Bridge Street towards Fairchild Street.
Those travelling along Bay Street onto Lower Fairchild Street, before the traffic lights, will continue onto Upper Fairchild Street towards John Beckles Drive.
Police reminded the public that anyone who contravenes the traffic rules or fails to comply with the directions of a uniformed officer may be liable on summary conviction to a fine of $500 or imprisonment for three months.
The rules do not apply to vehicles used by the Barbados Police Service, the Barbados Defence Force, the Barbados Fire Service or other emergency vehicles.
Officers will be deployed in the area to manage traffic, and the Police Service apologised for any inconvenience caused, thanking the public for its cooperation.
