Small was also responsible for two of the day’s six records. In the Long Jump she leapt 3.84m, destroying the old mark of 3.58m, while in the 300m, she clocked 46.99 seconds, which was well under the old mark of 47.12.

Not to be left out, Whittaker set a new record in the 300m of 46.85 seconds, which bettered the existing zone record of 47.41.

According to veteran track and field coach Jasper Blades, the NAPSAC meet is growing and the performances are looking more consistent.

“You’ve seen the last two days where schools dominated, but that is expected because those schools actually spend time taking children to compete on a consistent basis. Those schools are the ones that will do well,“ he said.

Blades is now looking forward to the quarterfinals, semifinals and final, because a number of children have transferred to new schools so there may be a difference.

He added: “Some of the top athletes have gone on, so it’s a case of rebuilding for some schools, but so far the performances have been wonderful. You have not had as many  records on the track as of late, but there have been some really good performances.”
