Berger Paints has closed its operations in Barbados.
Reports reaching The Nation indicated the plant at Exmouth Gap, Brandons, St Michael was closed and staff were sent home this morning.
When the team arrived, the place was closed and a security guard directed them to contact a representative.
Berger Paints is a subsidiary of the Ansa McAl Group in Trinidad and Tobago and it published a statement on its website, indicating it was operating under a new model and the plant in Barbados would close on April 24.
The products would still be manufactured in the Caribbean and distributed here through selected partners.
“As part of this transition, Berger Paints Barbados Limited will begin a wind-down of its manufacturing and site operations, with all sites closing on April 24th, 2026. This includes the plant, warehouse, Colour Shops, and administrative offices. This action has become necessary due to sustained changes in the operating environment, including the impact of Article 164, which has affected the long-term viability of local manufacturing operations for Berger Paints Barbados.”
The statement said it recognised the closure would impact staff and their families and the company was committed to “handling this process in a way that is fair, respectful, and centred on its people”.
Consultation will begin next week. (Nation News)
