A message of deterrence must be sent to those people who engage in crimes of financial fraud.
So said Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell as she imposed a starting sentence of six years in prison on Diego Jerome King when he reappeared in the No. 4 Supreme Court yesterday.
She later suspended the jail time left after deductions and ordered him to pay a forthwith fine.
King, of York Terrace, The Pine, St Michael, had pleaded guilty, at an earlier Session of the Continuous Sittings, to the charge that with intent to defraud, he attempted to obtain $78 845.44 from RBC Royal Bank by using a forged instrument – a cheque – payable to Diego King and drawn on the account of Choo’s Enterprises Ltd, knowing the same to be forged, between August 9 and 16, 2018.
