$150 compensation ordered for assault

Edwin Orlando Greaves was ordered to pay compensation after admitting to assault.

The 64-year-old caddy of Grazettes New Road, St Michael, appeared in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Manila Renee and pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting Rasheed Chandler on February 18, 2024.

Sergeant Kenmore Phillips told the court that the complainant’s girlfriend is renting a house from the accused’s sister. For a period of time, Chandler has received verbal abuse and threats from the accused about where he parked his car. On the mentioned date, the complainant heard the garbage can being dragged and looked out to see Greaves throwing the can in a bushy area. Chandler went outside and questioned the accused, and Greaves’ nephew came outside and told them to cease and desist. After Chandler voiced his complaints to the nephew, Greaves went to his vehicle, took out a meat cleaver and charged at Chandler, the prosecutor said. However, the nephew held onto Greaves, while Chandler went inside and reported the matter to the police.

Magistrate Renee ordered Greaves to pay the complainant $150 in one day or serve one week in prison.
