City gears up for Colourmania 5K

Bridgetown is set to burst with colour on Sunday, April 12 as the highly anticipated Colourmania 5K Run and Walk takes over The City.

Dubbed a “FUN-raising” event by organisers, participants can expect a high-energy trek with a vibrant, J’Ouvert-style experience.

Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday at Harrison College, organisers revealed that the event aims to attract 900 participants. Proceeds will go toward much-needed school equipment, including upgrades to the computer lab, making every splash of colour a step toward a brighter future for students.

According to alumnus, Patrick Salt Bellamy, following a loop of the city, participants can expect an entertainment packed finish at Harrison College.

“We go onto the big field for the big fun loop which is what we really want to get to. That’s where they get to go through the obstacles, they get to go in the bouncy tent, they get to flip some tyres, jump over a four foot wall, get some more paint, get some more powder; lots of vibes, lots of music and so much fun. We will even play some hopscotch, so the person that has the most fun on the road gets the biggest prize.”

Bellamy said the event is not restricted to current or past students of the school. “Anyone who wants to can come out and support. It’s not only for Harrisonians, we’re doing it for the betterment of the community because we know NCD’s have taken a grip on the country and any time, to get out there and do some movement and sweat a little bit, is a good opportunity.”

Principal Kaylene Kellman-Holder described the event as a golden opportunity to foster a harmonious relationship between past and the current students.

“It helps to deepen those connections and I am a proponent of connection because when persons feel connected they are encouraged to give more. I want to dispel the notion that Harrison College is just about academics.

We are very much a school of excellence in all areas, a school of balance, as these persons present here can attest.”

She continued, “Our needs are myriad, but I am pleased that the Old Harrisonian Society is working on some of perhaps our greatest needs, in the form of refurbishing one of our IT labs because technology is the bedrock right now of our learning.”
