West Terrace Primary and Blackman and Gollop Primary emerged victorious in contrasting fashions as the curtain came down on the Chef Foods NAPSAC Championships at the Usain Bolt Complex on Friday.
On the girls’ side, West Terrace Primary dominated the track from start to finish, much to the delight of their supporters, finishing top of the table with 157 points. Hilda Skeene Primary claimed second with 121 points, while Christ Church Girls secured third on 119 points.
Blackman and Gollop Primary’s 87 points were enough to clinch fourth place, with All Saints finishing fifth on 62 points. Defending girls’ champions Good Shepherd Primary fell outside the top ten.
Under-13 standout Reshanna Holder of Hilda Skeene took the Victrix Ludorum title, scoring 30 points for her exceptional performances.
Among the boys, Blackman and Gollop Primary narrowly edged out Bayley’s Primary to claim the title. Led by Under-9 champion Zaviere Brathwaite and Under-13 standout Nathan Phillips, they finished with 161 points — just three ahead of Bayley’s 158. Defending champions West Terrace came third with 112.5 points, followed by Charles F. Broome (90) and Mount Tabor Primary (50) to round out the top five.
The Victor Ludorum title went to Nathannael Whittaker of Reynold Weekes Primary, who scored a maximum 30 points in the Under-11 category, remaining unbeaten in all his sprint events.
In what was undoubtedly one of the races of the day, Joshua Russell of St Winifred’s upset crowd favourite Nathan Phillips of Blackman and Gollop in the Under 13 Boys’ 400m final. Despite a strong start, Phillips left himself with too much work to do in the final 150m, with the impressive Russell taking the gold in 60.76 seconds, narrowly ahead of Phillips in 60.79. Liam Weekes of Luther Thorne Memorial was third in 63.80 seconds.
Phillips returned to win the 100m and 200m events, while celebrating at the finish on both occasions.
Among the Under-13 Girls’, Hilda Skeene’s Reshanna Holder stormed to victory in the 100m (13.28 seconds) and 200m (27.27 seconds)
Nathannael Whittaker of Reynold Weekes Primary set the track ablaze with victories in the Under-11 Boys’ 100m (13.97 seconds) and 200m (28.81 seconds).
Friday’s competition thoroughly entertained a large crowd, which included Prime Minister Mia Mottley and former President Dame Sandra Mason.
