Two killed in Cambridge shooting; Police issue national appeal

Police have confirmed a double homicide in Cambridge, St Joseph, on Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded after receiving a report from a caller at around 2:25 p.m. of a grey Toyota Axio parked along Cambridge road with the bodies of two men. On arrival, police confirmed both men had sustained multiple gunshot injuries.

They were declared dead by a doctor, who was called to the scene. Videos circulating on social media show the blood-soaked seats of a vehicle, believed to be where the men were shot.

Police Public Affairs and Communication Officer Inspector Ryan Brathwaite said a forensics team was deployed to the area to gather evidence.

Lawmen are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in solving the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, or the District F Police Station at 433-1540.

Inspector Brathwaite has made a direct appeal to Barbadians, urging the community to take action against the rising crime wave.

“This is our country, our sweet Barbados. Crime has an effect on all Barbadians. It affects families; it affects our country financially. Visitors to the island are scared away, and people living within the country remain fearful as a result of this crime wave,” he said.

“We are all family. We are connected in one way or another. There must be a better way to resolve our conflicts. Let us have that conversation.”

Inspector Brathwaite urged Barbadians to engage with their loved ones: “Speak to your children, speak to your brothers, speak to your sisters, aunts, speak to your cousins. This is not the way that we live as a people. Crime cannot help us in Barbados. We must do better as a people to resolve our situations.”

He added that while The Barbados Police Service is committed to preserving peace, members of communities must also work to resolve conflicts without violence.

“Let us treat conflict in a different way. Violence is not the way, Barbados. A peaceful Barbados is a better Barbados and will benefit us all,” he added. (BT)
