Jury finds one guilty of murder, another of manslaughter

A jury has found one man guilty of murder and his co-accused guilty of manslaughter in connection with a 2017 shooting death.

Livardo Roghileo Hinds was convicted of murder, while Kemar Glenville Stoute was found guilty of manslaughter in the killing of Michael Edwards on February 2, 2017. Stoute, of Bottom Close, Wildey, St Michael, and Hinds, of Durants Lodge Road, Christ Church, were tried in the No. 3 Supreme Court.

Following the summation by Justice Carlisle Greaves last Friday, the jury deliberated for almost three hours before returning the verdicts.

Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney, acting Senior State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce, and State Counsel Rommel Sandiford prosecuted the case.

Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens represents Stoute, while attorneys Safiya Moore and Michael Rivera represent Hinds.

Justice Greaves ordered pre-sentencing reports, remanded Stoute into custody, and set sentencing for May 29.

Three men had originally been charged for the killing, but during the trial, the prosecution withdrew the case against Jason Ainsley Wilson, of Wildey Gardens, St Michael, and asked that a formal verdict of not guilty be entered in his favour.

Wilson was then told that he was free to go.

He was represented by Senior Counsel Andrew Pilgrim and attorney Latisha Springer.
