Barbados, already enjoying expanded airlift from the United Kingdom and North America, is now set to welcome its newest scheduled service from Canada.
Canada’s Porter Airlines has received scheduled international licences to operate flights to Barbados, the Dominican Republic, and Aruba.
On Wednesday, the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) approved Porter to offer scheduled flights to Bridgetown and the two other Caribbean destinations.
This follows previously approved licences for Costa Rica, Jamaica, and the United Kingdom announced in June 2025.
Porter is not new to the Caribbean. The airline introduced long-haul services to Nassau, Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands last December from Toronto and Ottawa, followed by flights from Montreal to Nassau on February 5.
The expanded Caribbean services come after Porter began offering long-haul flights from Toronto Pearson International Airport in February 2023, following the addition of the Embraer E195-E2 aircraft to its fleet.
No launch dates for flights to Barbados or the other Caribbean destinations have been announced.
The airline’s strategy includes extending its elevated economy experience into southern vacation markets, launching 13 new routes to five popular destinations for the 2025–2026 season – Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Grand Cayman, and Liberia (Costa Rica) – from Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Hamilton airports.
Earlier this week, Porter also unveiled its brand-new terminal at Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, with 12 new Canadian routes from YHU taking off starting this June. (EJ)
