Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw has announced a major push to modernise government services, revealing that licence applications and payments will soon be fully electronic as part of a broader digital transformation agenda.
Speaking at the National Security Division’s 50th Anniversary Thanksgiving Service held at the People’s Cathedral on Sunday, Bradshaw said that government is actively upgrading systems, integrating new technology, and reviewing legislation to ensure it remains “fit for purpose.”
She explained that key services which include licence applications and secure payments will be transitioned online to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for citizens and stakeholders.
Bradshaw said the initiative forms part of a wider effort by the administration to modernise public sector operations. This includes digitising public records, expanding e-government platforms, and introducing integrated data systems to improve coordination across ministries and departments.
“In the near future, processes such as licence applications, annual registrations, and secure online system payments will be facilitated electronically,” she stated, noting that investments in ICT infrastructure and staff training are already underway to support the transition.
The Deputy Prime Minister underscored that the modernisation drive also extends to national security operations, where manual systems are being replaced with technology-driven solutions to enhance accountability and service delivery.
Addressing the role of the National Security Division, she highlighted its 50-year track record of maintaining safety and stability across government institutions, while emphasising the need for continued adaptability in an increasingly complex and technology-driven environment.
Bradshaw also stressed that while technology will enhance operations, human judgment and professionalism remain central to effective security.
“A nation is not made safe by systems alone; it is made safe by its people choosing every single day to be their brother’s keeper,” she said.
The service marked a milestone for the division, which was established on April 1, 1976, and currently comprises more than 200 personnel. Bradshaw praised both current and former members for their dedication and commitment to national duty.
She also used the occasion to encourage citizens, particularly young people, to embrace the values of peace, responsibility, and community, reminding the congregation that national strength depends not only on systems, but on the everyday choices of its people.
