New National Party (NNP) Political Leader Kemar Stuart on Tuesday announced his departure from the post, confirming that his one-year tenure has officially come to an end under the party’s constitution.
In a statement, Stuart thanked supporters, candidates and voters who backed the party during its formation and first general election outing on February 11.
“I am grateful for all your love and to the people of St John and Barbados who acted to show a permanent mark of love by voting for me , The NNP and its candidates.
“As per the New National Party constitution my tenure of one year as political leader of the party has officially come to an end. It was a great honour to serve as the 1st political leader of the NNP however I will not be seeking office for the period of 2026-2027,” Stuart stated.
He also confirmed that the leadership of the party will now pass to Carolyn Clarke, who contested the St Michael East constituency for the NNP in the last election.

“I wish to personally congratulate Carolyn Clarke and that she be guided on the best of principles as she embarks on her new journey to political leadership,” Stuart added.
