NNP gets new leader

Carolyn Clarke will take over as political leader of the New National Party (NNP) after Kemar Stuart announced yesterday that his one-year tenure was up.

Clarke was the party’s candidate in the St Michael East constituency in the February 11 General Election.

Stuart, who unsuccessfully contested the St John riding, said the change was mandated by the party’s constitution.

“I wish to thank all those persons who supported and believed in the formation of NNP. I am grateful for all your love and to the people of St John and Barbados who acted to show a permanent mark of love by voting for me, the NNP and its candidates,” he said in a brief statement.

Saying it was “a great honour” to serve as the first political leader of the young party, he said he would not be seeking office for the 20262027 period.

“I wish to personally congratulate Carolyn Clarke . . . as she embarks on her new journey to political leadership,” Stuart added.
