Public invited to comment on immigration, citizenship bills

Barbadians are being invited to submit views and memoranda on the Immigration Bill, 2026 and the Barbados Citizenship Bill, 2026 to a Joint Select Committee on Economic and Productive Sectors of both Houses of Parliament.

According to a notice issued by Parliament, submissions may be made by individuals, organisations and groups, while persons wishing to make oral presentations before the committee are also being asked to indicate their interest.

The committee comprises Dwight Sutherland, Dr William Duguid, Indar Weir, Dr Romel Springer, Sandra Husbands, Senator Jonathan Reid, Senator Christopher Sinckler, Senator Ryan Walters and Senator Andrew Mallalieu.

The Bills are available online through the Barbados Parliament website.

Written submissions should be addressed to the Clerk of Parliament at Parliament Buildings, Trafalgar Street, Bridgetown, or sent via email to .

Parliament also advised that individuals and organisations which previously submitted views to the Committee on Governance and Policy Matters will not need to resubmit them, as those submissions will be forwarded to the Joint Select Committee.

The deadline for submissions and requests for oral presentations is Friday, May 22.

Proceedings of the committee will be conducted in public and streamed live on the Barbados Parliament website and social media platforms, and broadcast on CBC TV whenever possible. (BGIS)
