Man to be sentenced for malicious communications to ex-partner

A St Michael man who admitted sending threatening electronic messages to his former girlfriend will be sentenced on Friday after pleading guilty in the Magistrates’ Court.

Nicholas Mohammed Ali Hassan, 43, of Friendship Terrace, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Manila Renee in the No. 2 Court that between April 1 and May 18 he used a computer to send an electronic communication to Micarla Archer which was threatening in character and intended to cause her annoyance, inconvenience, distress and anxiety.

The complainant told the court that after they broke up following a few months of dating, Hassan began messaging her asking to get back together, but she refused. In response, he started sending messages threatening to harm her.

Hassan was released on $2 500 bail and ordered to remain 100 metres away from Archer and not to contact or harass her.
