Firearm trial begins in Supreme Court

A New Orleans man has gone on trial in the No. 4 Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to illegal firearm and ammunition charges.

D’Nairo Greaves of Third Avenue New Orleans, is accused that on July 20, 2022 he had in his possession a ‘19 Gen 4’ 9mm Luger calibre pistol without a valid licence and 14 rounds of ammunition without a valid permit.

A nine-member jury on Wednesday heard evidence from police photographer PC Duane Alleyne, former constable Kareem Parris and forensic firearms examiner Station Sergeant David Leslie.

Outlining the State’s case, State Counsel Paul Prescod said that police had cause to go to a Bush Hall house and on arrival allegedly saw the accused at a window with a firearm. He ran from the window and was subsequently caught in the yard, and a firearm was found on the living room floor.

Defence attorney Shadia Simpson represents Greaves, while Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell presides.
