Brittons Hill United were pushed to the limit by White Hall before securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the Barbados Football Association’s Champions Cup.
At the Glebe Playing Field in St George on Wednesday, White Hall took the lead in a heated contest in the 48th minute through a goal from Jamari Benn.
T’Shane Lorde then continued his good season, as he scored an equaliser for Brittons Hill in the 70th minute.
Deep into additional time Eric Puckerin completed the turnaround for Brittons Hill, as he scored with a left footed free kick from outside the box, to ensure his team remained in the hunt for the $30 000 first prize.
Brittons Hill United coach Richard Forde was relieved to progress after the hard fought encounter.
“We left it late but I’m happy with the performance. Whitehall played very direct and not what we are accustomed to, but the boys eventually adjusted well and they also had to adjust to the playing surface,” he said. “Looking forward to the next game we need to continue to maintain our discipline, which I was quite happy about last night. We focused more on the task at hand and not the outside influences, which we tend to do at times.”
He added, “If we maintain that control and discipline, we should be in good nick for our next encounter. Our main objective is to continue our good run of form and look to close out the season on a high.”
The quarterfinal line-up is now complete ahead of this weekend’s matches at the Wildey Technical Centre. On Saturday, Ivy Rovers will face Mavericks at 7 p.m., while Pro Shottas take on Paradise at 9 p.m.
In Sunday’s games, UWI Blackbirds oppose Brittons Hill at 6 p.m., before defending champions Weymouth Wales play Eyre’s Meatshop Pride of Gall Hill at 8:30 p.m.
