BARNUFO, CFPA pay tribute to Dr Shelly-Ann Cox

The Barbados National Union of Fisherfolk Organisations (BARNUFO) and the Central Fish Processors Association (CFPA) have paid tribute to Chief Fisheries Officer Dr Shelly-Ann Cox following her passing.

BARNUFO and CFPA President Vernel Nicholls extended condolences to Dr Cox’s family, friends and colleagues, describing her as a dedicated public servant who made a lasting impact on the fishing industry.

Nicholls said Dr Cox was “gone too soon,” noting her knowledge, leadership and passion for the sector, as well as her support for innovation, technology and youth engagement in fisheries.

“She worked tirelessly to raise awareness of hurricane protocols and foster collaboration, communication, coordination, logistics, and recovery efforts after Hurricane Beryl. Her vision was to build a more resilient and proactive approach to disaster risk management within the fisheries sector.

“We sincerely pray for divine strength and comfort for her immediate family, friends, co-workers, and the fisherfolk leaders during this difficult time,” Nicholls said.
