Nelroy Peter Calderon has been sentenced to three months in prison after admitting to stealing lumber from Purity Bakeries.
The 44-year-old of no fixed address was brought before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick and pleaded guilty to stealing two pieces of lumber valued at $70, belonging to Purity Bakeries, earlier this month.
Prosecutor Sergeant Gazelda Knight told the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court that the company had bought a number of pine boards which were stored on the compound, which is completely fenced.
On June 11, a cleaner at the bakery saw a man behind the building removing pieces of lumber and pushing them over the wall. She recorded the incident on her mobile phone and reported it to the business’s operations manager, who then contacted the police. The following day, police were contacted again after security officers saw the accused walking past the front gate carrying additional pieces of lumber they suspected he had stolen.
The accused was arrested and admitted to the offence.
