West Indies women reflect on World Cup elimination

West Indies all-rounder Jannillea Glasgow believes the team’s inability to consistently play its brand of cricket contributed to its semifinal exit from the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup.

Glasgow’s comments came on the heels of Tuesday’s eight-wicket defeat against Australia at The Oval. The loss was was also West Indies’ third straight defeat at the World Cup, following a three match unbeaten streak at the start of the event

“I think we just have to believe in ourselves from ball one and the get-go.

You just come here and cricket is played on the day, you just come and play the right cricket on that day,” she maintained.

Meanwhile fast-bowler Aaliyah Alleyne said the atmosphere during the campaign was good, despite what she described as a few “ups and downs.”

“I think when we lost against Ireland and we still were able to come to the semi-finals, I just think we didn’t play our brand of cricket. At the end of the day Australia came out and came hard at us, and we had no answers,” she added.

Glasgow thanked West Indies fans for their support even though she conceded it was not the ultimate result they wanted from the team. “To the supporters out there, thanks very much but hopefully in the future there are better things to come.”

To the fans Alleyne said, “I just want to say thank you guys. When you look back years ago, we didn’t have a following and now we see everyone keep saying go girls, keep going, we’re backing y’all 110 per cent. So I just want to say thank you and keep supporting us. We have more to come.”
