Phoenix Rugby Club and Scorpions fought to a hard-earned draw, while Lady Pelicans registered a comfortable win, during Round Two of the Women’s Rugby League at the Garrison Savannah.
Playing over the weekend Phoenix took an early lead through Alanna Quintyne who scored first during end-to-end play. Jasmine Sealy restored parity for the Scorpions shortly before half-time, leaving the teams locked at five points each at the break.
When play resumed, experienced player Emilie Trotman gave Phoenix the lead with a mammoth try, but the following conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
Sealy then overcame the spirited Phoenix defence to lock the scores at 10 points each, where it remained for the rest of the game.
In the second game, the youthful Lady Pelicans shut out Bajan Pride Women 10-0, with Leslie Griffith and Kiemara Forde scoring in the
first and second halves respectively.
The Lady Pelicans are unbeaten in their fixtures thus far, while Scorpions have one loss and one draw under their belts. Bajan Pride have lost both of their matches, despite spirited and intense play.
League action continues on July 11 at the Garrison Savannah.
