A St Michael woman has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after admitting to breaking into vehicles and stealing cash, with the court also activating a previously suspended sentence.
Keisha Malissa Clarke, 38, of Country Road, appeared in the No. 2 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to stealing $125 belonging to Najee Greenidge on January 12 and $11.80 belonging to James Coppin on July 10.
Prosecutor Sergeant Gazelda Knights told the court that both complainants had secured their vehicles and, upon their return, found them broken into with the money missing. They reported the matter to police and Clarke was captured on CCTV committing the offences.
The court heard that Clarke, who has 22 previous convictions, the majority of which were similar in nature, had appeared in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court in January and had been placed on a three-month sentence, which was suspended for nine months.
Magistrate Manila Renee informed her that her guilty pleas had activated the three-month sentence, while ordering her to serve one year for each of the thefts.
The sentences will run consecutively.
