The stage is set for the calypso showdown in the Courtesy Garage Pic-O-De-Crop Finals, powered by Q100.7 FM, as the 18 finalists officially drew their performance positions on Saturday ahead of the July 31 competition at the National Botanical Gardens.
Drawing the coveted number one position is former monarch Quon, marking the third time he has secured the opening slot. Confident about leading off the competition, Quon said the position gives him the opportunity to set the tone for the evening. J. Diamond will follow in position two, while Raheem takes the third spot.
Defending champion Mr. Blood will perform fourth as he seeks to retain his crown. The middle section of the lineup features Queen T in fifth position, Tae in sixth, Skung Yung in seventh, Niqa in eighth, iWeb in ninth, and Sir Ruel closing out the top ten in tenth position.
Completing the lineup are Colin Spencer in eleventh, Chrystal in twelfth, Kid Site in thirteenth, Adrian Clarke in fourteenth, Yahandje in fifteenth, Billboard in sixteenth, Jamal Slocombe in seventeenth, and De Announcer performing eighteenth.
The finalists will compete not only for calypso supremacy but also for the grand prize – an EMKOO GX SUV valued at more than $116 000.
Festival organisers say anticipation is high for this year’s competition, noting the exceptional talent assembled for the finals and expressing confidence that the performance order will keep audiences engaged from start to finish.
