Ortega, Vera set for GT Challenge battle at Bushy Park

Class leaders Gustavo Ortega and Ricardo Vera are gearing up to face stiff competition, during the inaugural Fast Parts Caribbean GT Challenge at the Bushy Park circuit on August 29 and 30.

Heading into the fourth round of the series, Costa Rica’s Ortega is the overall leader of the GT Challenge and leads a strong field of Lamborghini drivers.

Driving the AP Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2, Ortega dominated the first four races of the championship in Panama, in the GTS class.

It marked a dramatic recovery after a motorcycle accident weeks before, left him nursing seven fractured ribs and a broken collar bone.

Recently, he has also enjoyed success in both FARA and Trans Am events in North America and is a two-time GT3 Champion in the Costa Rican National Championship.

During the third round of the championship at the South Dakota circuit in Guyana earlier this month, he placed fourth and third in class in the two races, retaining his lead in both the GTS class and the overall standings.

Ortega is also looking forward to some down time in Barbados following his upcoming races at Bushy Park

“Even though my family travels with me to all the races, I think this is a race that is going to take us a few extra days, not just the weekend and the practice days.

“I have been to Barbados in the past but for a relatively short time. I definitely think this is a trip we need to make the most of, stay a few days, explore a little, because the country really is beautiful,” he added.

The GTS Lights class, which caters for ‘Cup’ cars such as the Porsche 911 and Lamborghini Super Trofeo, is currently led by Puerto Rico’s Ricardo Vera.

Despite a more challenging weekend in Guyana, where he finished seventh in the first race and failed to start the second, he retained his lead in the GTS Lights standings, albeit with a much-reduced margin of nine points.
