The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) is declaring Crop Over 2026 a success, pointing to sold-out events, strong attendance and increased patronage across several major festival activities.
NCF chief executive officer Carol Roberts said the Foundation was pleased with the response to this year’s festival, which included the return of Cohobblopot, large costumes to the Grand Kadooment presentation, Pic O De Crop, Party Monarch, Junior Monarch, Kiddies Kadooment, Fusions and Foreday Mornin’.
She said the Foundation’s assessment was supported not only by its own events but by preliminary reports from private promoters.
“I would also want to remind you that Crop Over is not just NCF events,” Roberts said. “And so the preliminary word coming in from the private promoters both large and small is that their events were also very well subscribed with several of them reporting steady numbers over last year’s figures and even increased numbers.”
“Overall, I would say patron participation would have been very healthy,” she added.
Among the NCF events, Pic O De Crop was one of the clear crowd draws, with the finals sold out. Roberts also pointed to strong patronage at the Opening Gala, Junior Monarch tents and the calypso tents.
Kadooment Day and Foreday Mornin’ also attracted significant numbers of registered bands, she noted, while the return of Berger Jam Tune was another positive for the entity responsible for staging the Sweetest Summer Festival.
Bridgetown Market was the notable exception. (NS)
