Barbados Tridents will be in action on Tuesday night as they start their campaign in the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The freshly-minted Bajan outfit – with the return to the traditional national colours – bowl off against Jamaica Kingmen at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
The match starts at 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Barbados) and a team spokesman said they will be at full strength as they seek a third title. They flew into Kingston on Sunday and received the news that Brandon King, the seasoned opening batsman, made a full recovery after he suffered a leg injury during the Test series against Pakistan in Trinidad. Sherfane Rutherford, the left-hander power-hitter, arrived directly from London where he was playing in The Hundred.
This will be the first CPL match at Sabina Park in seven years. Back then the home team was named Jamaica Tallawahs. The organisers of the tournament are expecting a full, colourful and loud local crowd to mark the return of the “biggest party in sport” to the historic venue in the heart of Kingston.
Barbados Tridents will be on the road for the next three weeks. The second match is on August 16 against the Saint Lucia Kings at Daren Sammy Stadium. They then have a break before they face Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on August 25. The final two away matches are on August 28 against Trinbago Knight Riders at Queen’s Park Oval and on September 1 against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at Warner Park.
